Atlético-GO and Juventude secured this Saturday (25) the two remaining places for access to Series A of the 2024 Brazilian Championship — Vitória, champion of the tournament for the first time, and Criciúma had already secured their participation in the tournament’s elite.
Atlético-GO beat Guarani 3-0 in Goiânia, and Juventude beat Ceará 3-1 in Fortaleza.
At the opposite level of the classification, Sampaio Corrêa and Tombense joined ABC and Londrina among the clubs relegated to Series C.
Sport, which was in the running for promotion, sealed Sampaio Corrêa’s relegation in a 4-1 rout in Recife, but the result was not enough to take the team to the first division. Tombense was defeated by Mirassol, who also had a chance of reaching Série A, 1-0.
The dispute for access to Series A in the last round was, this year, the most competitive since 2006, when the championship began to be played in a straight points format.
For the first time, six teams had a chance of occupying the last access spots. In 2011 and 2015, five clubs competed for access to Series A in the last round of the championship.
Played this Saturday, the 38th round of Series B had ten simultaneous games, and eight were decisive.
