O Athletico opened the coffers for 2024, the year of its centenary. After president Mario Celso Petraglia said that the club’s revenue could reach R$800 million in the next financial statement, Furacão has invested heavily and has already spent more than R$45 million on reinforcements.

Athletico’s four signings so far are: the right-back Leo Godoythe defender Mateo Gamarrathe midfielder Andrey and the attacker Romeo Benitez.

For the Paraguayans, the club paid more than 30 million for 75% of the rights of the defender and 80% of the attacker. There were also around R$14.5 million for 100% of the Argentine ex-Estudiantes and R$700 thousand for 90% of the young ex-ABC midfielder.

The club also invested heavily in experienced coach Juan Carlos Osorio and the arrival of new CEO Alexandre Leitão to have a consistent season behind the scenes. The values were not ventilated.

Hurricane, however, should not stop there. The team continues to search for a center forward. The main target is Uruguayan Mastriani, but negotiations with América-MG remain stuck. The deal would be worth around R$10 million.

Due to Godoy and now possibly Mastriani, Rubro-Negro even changed its investment philosophy. Both are older (28 and 30 years old) and have smaller resale markets. The focus is to build a competitive team.

Athletico would also have contacted striker Luís Henrique, formerly of Botafogo, and may have to make up for the imminent departure of midfielder Vitor Bueno, who has advanced negotiations with Cerezo Osaka, from Japan.

Another big investment could happen in defender Cacá. The defender will cost more than R$14 million if he plays 30 games for Furacão – so far he has played 17 games. Vasco, by Alexandre Mattos, monitors the defender.
