Athletico signs Argentine full-back Léo Godoy

Athletico moved in the market and officially announced the arrival of right-back Leonardo Godoy. The 28-year-old Argentine was at Estudiantes and will go for his first experience outside Argentina, signing a contract with the Brazilian club until December 2027. Léo Godoy will be the fourth Argentine in the squad, joining Lucas Esquivel, Bruno Zapelli and Tomás Cuello .

Godoy began his career at Atlético Rafaela, a team from the province of Santa Fé, Argentina. In 2016, he transferred to Talleres, from Córdoba, where he played for four seasons and played for the first time in the Libertadores, in 2019.

A standout in the Argentine Championship, Godoy was hired in 2020 by Estudiantes. In the La Plata team, he returned to compete in the biggest tournament on the continent in 2022, when he faced Athletico in the two matches of the duel for the quarterfinals, in which the Brazilian team advanced.

For Estudiantes, he played 141 games in three seasons, with nine goals and 19 assists, showing his offensive power. By projecting his experience at Athletico, Godoy wants to adapt quickly to take the club to international competitions and titles.

“My expectation is to first adapt quickly, join the squad, help the team. The objective is always to qualify the club for major international competitions and win titles. Athletico’s first challenge of the season will be the Campeonato Paranaense. The team debuts on Wednesday (17th), at 7pm, against Andraus, away from home. The debut at Ligga Arena will only be in the third round, on January 24, against Maringá.
