Athletico-PR: Zico detonates synthetic lawns and says: “It’s for naked”

Former Flamengo star and Brazilian national team, Zico criticized the Palmeiras, Botafogo and Athletico stadiumswhich use synthetic turf in Série A of the Brasileirão.

According to a former player, artificial floors bring advantages for the teams that adopt them.

“The big problem is making it clear that it’s not just because of the pitch that they win. They’re going to win championships on the regular pitch because they have good teams”, began Galinho, in an interview with Neto, on Band’s Apito Final program.

According to Zico, the problem is the amount of games that teams like Hurricane and Palmeiras end up playing on synthetic grass. “I honestly don’t like it. It doesn’t convince me. I think synthetic pitch is for naked, for draft beer”, he shot.

“It’s for you to lower costs in your training center, in your schools. But it’s not for competition”, he reinforced.

Still according to the former athlete, first world football countries, such as England, Germany, France and Holland, opt for natural grass. “You don’t see a synthetic field there. And the guys have been in football this whole time. And Brazil can’t get carried away by that. In my opinion, it’s a big absurdity”, he continued.

Finally, Zico says that synthetic lawns end up with equal conditions between opponents. “For me, it’s an advantage. Either everyone plays on equal terms or not. Because you train in one situation and play in another,” he added.
