Athletico 100 years: Ron, the somersaulter

Historically, the signings that Athletico makes can be divided into four types. Big gold medallions often go wrong. The arrival without fanfare of names that were off the competition’s radar (often turn out very well).
There are also “soap operas” in which the club almost always wins negotiations due to fatigue and even bets on players who are out of the market due to their legal, contractual or personal situation – and even so, CAP buys the fight.
The arrival of Ron to Hurricane in 2018 was a sum of the last three typologies. Before agreeing with Athletico, the striker even wore the shirt of another club that withdrew, as Albirex Nigata, which had its rights, promised to compromise the negotiation.
The fight was strong and Furacão entered the game. After a lot of exchanges with the Japanese, Athletico obtained clearance from FIFA and was able to register Rony in August 2018. It was the best-selling scolding in our history.
Between his arrival and January 2020, the striker played a lot of ball. He played 73 matches, scored 13 goals and won three titles for the club: the South American, the Levain Cup and the Copa do Brasil, where he was a fundamental player. Afterwards, Rony was sold for good money and CAP even took a transfer ban of FIFA during the pandemic, but the issue was resolved by the club’s lawyers.
It was all worth it, because on September 18, 2019, the somersault with which Rony celebrated his goals, crowned the Copa do Brasil title in Beira-Rio and the most beautiful move in Athletico’s 100 years.
