Athletes undergo rigorous training during the week

Manaus (AM) – The biggest open water swimming event in the North of Brazil will take place in the waters of the Rio Negro in Novo Airão. Swimmers from all over the country will gather on February 26th for the edition of the Rio Negro Challenge – Anavilhanas Stage.

The coordinator of Aquática Nobre, Neto Nobre, is working on the preparation of 18 athletes enrolled in the competition. According to Nobre, the athletes go through rigorous training during the week.

“Preparation is very intense. My team is all focused and is divided into three schedules, but we are going with a good number of athletes to participate. We are training practically from Sunday to Sunday. They are only having Saturday as a rest. Monday to Friday at the pool and every Sunday we are going to Ponta Negra with them to train”, he said.

In addition to intensive training, the team is in a cycle of competitions that have prepared them for the Challenge.

“They haven’t actually had a vacation yet. They have been on a cycle since last year due to various competitions even by the Swimming Federation. There were people who swam last year in the open sea in Rio de Janeiro. Now January and February I just intensified the training. I raised it so we could swim and do well there in the Challenge”, she concluded.

The swimming school Aquática Nobre works to promote the sport in the Amazon. Coordinator of the site seven years ago, Neto Nobre started swimming as a child on a medical recommendation for the treatment of asthma and fell in love with sports.

Rio Negro Challenge

At the beginning of January, more than 60% of the 200 vacancies for the competition were filled. The competition will count on the participation of swimmers from states across the country such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Roraima and Minas Gerais.

The event is being organized by the municipal government, through the municipal secretariats of Industry, Commerce and Tourism (Semintur) and Youth, Sport and Leisure (Semjel), in partnership with Associação Aquática Amazonas, and sponsorships of public and private initiatives .

According to the municipal secretary of Tourism, Suzianne Fonseca, the purpose, once again, will be to include Novo Airão in the state and national calendar of major sporting events.

“In addition to encouraging the practice of sports, we are working on consolidating the municipality with yet another sports tourism activity. Therefore, it is a strategy to promote the local tourist market”, he points out.

The municipal secretary of Tourism reinforced that the RN Experience will be the gateway to the calendar that foresees the holding of four major sporting events.

“This event needs to have good planning and execution so that it becomes a reference to attract participants to other sporting events in Novo Airão. Hence the need to align actions between the agents involved, ”he said.

The president of Associação Aquatica Amazonas, Pierre Gadelha, explained that the race will offer two routes: the Boto circuit with 1.5 kilometers and Peixe-boi, 3 kilometers.

“The event promises to bring more than 400 people to Novo Airão, with only athletes and companions who will use services offered in the city”, he explained.

The program also provides for a technical visit at the beginning of February to check the conditions of the river (water level) and, on the 25th, a reception and a different technical congress, presenting the best of the Amazon to the participants. And, on the 26th, the great competition with the participation of national athletes from various regions of Brazil.
