The National Association of Attorneys of the Republic (ANPR) defined this Wednesday (21) the triple list that will be sent to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for appointment to the position of Attorney General of the Republic.
Despite the mobilization of prosecutors, there are no signs that Lula will follow the suggestions of names for the succession in command of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), as he did in his first two governments, reported Agência Brasil. In September, the mandate of the current prosecutor Augusto Aras ends.
According to the Constitution, the President of the Republic is not obliged to follow the association’s list and may choose any of the acting sub-attorneys to head the body. The most voted candidate was Assistant Attorney Luiza Frischeisen, who received 526 votes. Mário Bonsaglia was in second place (465 votes), followed by José Adonis Callou (407 votes).
After the result of the vote, the president of the ANPR, Ubiratan Cazetta, declared that forwarding the names contributes to the selection process. Cazetta said that he has already requested an audience with Lula to deliver the list.
“The manifestation of the members of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office reinforces a historic struggle, which, far from being corporate, waves to Brazilian society and to the President of the Republic himself with a system that repeats the design adopted for all other Brazilian public ministries and which brings the advantage of transparency in its formulation”, declared the association.
