Manaus (AM) – The Parintins Folk Festival, promoted by the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, is held in June, but the artists who make the party happen on the Tupinambarana island (369 kilometers from Manaus), with a lot of talent and creativity, also stand out in the Carnival. This year, the parades of the Samba Schools of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, last weekend, were attended by artists from Caprichoso and Garantido.

São Paulo Carnival

Boi Garantido was a highlight of the São Paulo Carnival. At the Anhembi sambadrome, the Império de Casa Verde samba school paraded with the theme ‘Fafá, the Mystical Cabocla in Rituais da Floresta’. During the parade, one of the floats, entitled ‘Fafá na Encantaria da Floresta Avermelhada’ made mention of the well-known red and white ox of Parintins, highlighting one of the songs immortalized in the voice of Fafá and David Assayag: ‘Vermelho’, by 1996.

Furthermore, the singer Márcia Siqueira, the singer of Garantido, was given the responsibility of opening the parade of the samba school Mocidade Alegre, which came with the theme Brasileia Desvairada – Mário de Andrade’s search for a country”, where she told history of the work and life of the 20th century modernist author. To conclude the successful participation, Mocidade Alegre was the champion of the São Paulo Carnival 2024.

“It’s a lot of joy. In addition to participating with the samba-enredo, they chose a song from Garantido, which I recorded in 2017, called ‘Prece Cabocla’. She opened the school’s presentation and it was a beautiful and emotional moment for me to be in that space representing my state”, said the singer, Márcia Siqueira, also known as the red rose of the red ox.

The Boi Caprichoso also left its mark on the São Paulo Carnival. In São Paulo, there were Arthur Brasil, Márcio Gonçalves, Nei Meireles, Nonoca Costa, Rel Tavares, Robertinho Galúcio, Dude, Mag and the other collaborators of boi-bumbá. And in Santos, Aldenilson Pimentel and his team, made up of Carlos Pimentel, Leandro Pimentel, Gederson Pinho and Josinei Lins from Parintina, were also in charge of the parade productions.

Rio de Janeiro Carnival

Behind the scenes, Boi Caprichoso was represented heavily at the Rio de Janeiro Carnival. There, artists Algles Ferreira, Kennedy Prata, Alex Salvador, Nildo Costa and their respective teams, all from Parintina, performed. One of the most beautiful allegories of this year’s Rio Carnival champion school, Viradouro, was made by Nildo and his team.

“The greatest happiness is to contribute to our Parintina art and I am very happy for Viradouro. Through our hand, which is blessed by God, we are building an exchange between Parintins and Rio de Janeiro, which has been going on for decades. We managed to show the world what our art is”, celebrated Caprichoso artist, Nildo Costa.

At 26 years old, dancer Cleia Santos, a member of Corpo de Dança do Amazonas (CDA) and of the dance group Gandhicats, which is part of the Boi Garantido team, was part of the front committee of the Acadêmicos do Salgueiro samba school, which took the “Hutukara” plot, exalting the Yanomami indigenous people.
