Arrested, former deputy Daniel Silveira is indicted for breaking anklet

Sentenced to eight years and two months in prison for criticizing ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and imprisoned since May this year, former deputy Daniel Silveira was indicted by the Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF) for having broken his electronic ankle bracelet which he wore by order of the Supreme Court in April of last year while awaiting trial.

In April 2022, days after putting on the electronic anklet, the former deputy asked for the device to be replaced because he suspected there was a “listening” in the anklet. At the time, the parliamentarian’s lawyer, Paulo César Rodrigues de Faria, reported “abnormalities” and “strange behavior” in the equipment.

Without having the request answered, Silveira would have broken the anklet. A subsequent expertise by the PCDF denied any tampering with the device.

Released last Wednesday (30), the new complaint against the former deputy was reported to the judiciary through the Police Station for Repression of Organized Crime (DRACO). If the Justice accepts the complaint, Silveira will be liable for the crime of damage and will be subject to a sentence of 1 to 6 months.

In May of this year, the ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) concluded the judgment that annulled the pardon granted by the former president, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), to Silveira after he criticized the Court’s judges while he was invested with the position of deputy and , therefore, should, in theory, enjoy parliamentary immunity.

In the parliamentarian’s trial, only ministers André Mendonça and Nunes Marques voted in favor of the pardon, which is an exclusive attribution of the President of the Republic.
