Army informs that it will remove Mauro Cid from his military duties

The Brazilian Army Social Communication Center reported, this Sunday (10), that it will comply with the court decision issued by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), and will remove the former aide of orders of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) , Lieutenant Colonel Mauro César Barbosa Cid of his duties.

Upon compliance with the decision, Cid will be attached to the General Department of Personnel (DGP) without holding a position or performing a role.

The Army complies with Moraes’ determination in the same decision in which it ratified Cid’s plea bargain, proposed by the defense of Bolsonaro’s former assistant to the Federal Police. In the document, Moraes granted provisional release to Cid, with the imposition of precautionary measures, such as the use of an electronic ankle bracelet, a ban on leaving the house at certain times and removal from duties in the Army. Notified, the Force says it will comply.

The minister also ordered the suspension of any firearms possession documents in the name of the person being investigated, in addition to any Registration Certificates for carrying out firearms collecting, sports shooting and hunting activities (CACs), and the use of social networks.

Moraes banned Cid from leaving the country, with the obligation to hand over his passports within five days. He also determined that the passports be rendered void.

The denunciation

On September 6, Cid even went to the STF to talk about his desire to collaborate. The former aide-de-camp was arrested on charges of involvement in a fraud scheme involving the vaccination cards of family members and former president Bolsonaro.

Cid is being investigated in a series of operations – including the one investigating the illegal sale of jewelry and other objects from the Presidency of the Republic’s collection during the Bolsonaro administration.

New steps

In the now-approved denunciation, Mauro Cid will need to bring unpublished facts to the investigations, which have not been told in the hours of testimony already given to the Federal Police. After the revelations, which should be made by the military in the coming days, the PF will take further steps to check the veracity of the information.

The expectation is that Cid will clarify points about how Bolsonaro participated in the following cases: the falsification of vaccination cards in the Ministry of Health’s system, Conect SUS; the jewelry that irregularly entered the country and the time when the gifts were sold abroad; and even about the 8th of January and the investigations into the attempted coup d’état in the country, with the participation of intellectual mentors from the previous government.

Depositions

In recent weeks, Cid has given a series of statements to the Federal Police. The most recent occurred on August 31, in an investigation into the jewelry case.

In addition to Cid, Jair and Michelle Bolsonaro, General Mauro Cesar Lourena Cid (Mauro Cid’s father) and lawyers Fabio Wajngarten and Frederick Wassef were summoned simultaneously to hearings at the PF.

Of the eight summoned, only Mauro Cid and his father spoke to investigators in Brasilia; Frederick Wassef, lawyer for the Bolsonaro family, provided clarification in São Paulo.

Bolsonaro and Michelle remained silent during the hearing. The former first lady relied on an opinion from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) that questions the STF’s competence to judge the case. Fabio Wajngarten also did not speak. One of the reasons he gave is the fact that he is a lawyer for the Bolsonaro couple.

Cid also gave a statement on August 28, as part of the investigation investigating the actions of hacker Waler Delgatti Neto against the National Justice Council (CNJ) system.

In this hearing of the former aide-de-camp, the PF found out whether Mauro Cid participated or whether it has information on the meeting and dealings that former president Jair Bolsonaro had with federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP). In the conversations, the two would have discussed a plan to invade the CNJ system and also to contest the effectiveness of the electoral system.
