Without the privileged forum that protected him from being called during the Covid CPI, in 2021, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) could become one of the targets of the base of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the CPMI (Comissão Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry) that will investigate the coup acts of January 8.

Bolsonaro passed his term protected from summons to CPIs due to article 50 of the Constitution, which says that Parliament can summon ministers or any holders of bodies directly subordinated to the Presidency, thus excluding the president.

Now, PT deputies and senators want Bolsonaro to be heard by the collegiate that will investigate the anti-democratic attempt. However, some call attention to the importance of being politically correct when calling him.

“Ex-president Bolsonaro will certainly have to testify at the CPMI. After all, he is the main sponsor of the coup attempt after the electoral defeat of the ultra-right in Brazil”, says deputy Rogério Correia (PT-MG).

Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ) says that the priority should be Anderson Torres, former Minister of Justice and former Secretary of Public Security for the Federal District, arrested three months ago on suspicion of omission in the attacks. Senator Humberto Costa (PT-PE), one of the participants in the Covid CPI, says he considers it very difficult for Bolsonaro not to be called.

“I have the impression that everyone the Federal Police called to speak was for some reason. Bolsonaro was called to speak about January 8. It is natural that he would also come to the CPI. But there has to be an adequate assessment of what happened. time to make this call or summons”, says the former Minister of Health.

As the Panel showed, Lulist parliamentarians have also been talking about taking testimony from councilor Carlos Bolsonaro (Republicanos-RJ), son of the former president who has been a reference figure for Bolsonarist virtual strategies in recent years.
