Manaus (AM) – This March 9th, the Arena da Amazônia Vivaldo Lima completes a decade of existence. Built as one of the venues for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the imposing work inspired by local indigenous culture, was the scene of memorable moments, from international games with the Brazilian team to historic games such as the semifinals of the Women’s Copa Libertadores, with the team from Iranduba Sport Clube in 2018.

Administered by the Government of Amazonas, through the State Secretariat for Sports and Leisure (Sedel), the Arena da Amazônia is a multipurpose stage for events, and can be adapted for different sports.

“The Arena da Amazônia is more than a stadium, it is a dream for athletes and sports lovers. Through promotions, the Wilson Lima government has developed a legacy for football in the region and for the world in the stadium”, highlighted Jorge Oliveira, secretary of Sedel.

With an area of ​​84 thousand m² and capacity for more than 44 thousand fans, since its inauguration, the Arena da Amazônia has been the stage for major sporting events, including four games of the 2014 World Cup, six matches of the 2016 Olympics, in addition to state football championships, with record attendance.

At 45 years old, Augusto Dias, a fan of Amazonas FC, shared his experience, he who witnessed the first game of the 2014 World Cup in the sports space.

“Bringing the family to Arena da Amazônia, to watch football and see Amazonian sport grow is an inexplicable feeling. Congratulations Arena da Amazônia for 10 years of glory, and to the Government of Amazonas for the support given to sport in the state”, expresses the fan.

The stage for great moments in Amazonian football, the Arena had as its opening game the northern classic Nacional and Remo-PA, on March 9, 2014, the duel was valid for the Copa Verde and ended in a 2-2 draw. The largest audience recorded until today it was in the Series D final in 2019, in the duel between Manaus and Brusque, with 44,896 spectators filling the stadium.

The second largest audience, with 44,509, was in the Series C game between Amazonas and Botafogo-PB with a score of 2-0, which earned an Amazonian team access to Series B of the Brazilian Championship after 17 years. Completing the podium of largest audiences, in 2016, 44,419 people were present at the match between Vasco and Flamengo, Carioca’s semi-final game.

“The most memorable moment for me at Arena da Amazônia was the final game of the Amazonense Championship, in 2021, between Manaus and São Raimundo. With a turning goal, we guaranteed the fourth place in the state. I’m very happy to be part of this story”, recalls Paloma Fernandes, Manaus FC fan.

With a design that simulates a large indigenous straw basket, the Arena da Amazônia enchants for its unique architecture, but also for its concern with sustainability. The international Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, achieved by the stadium, attests to its commitment to the environment, making rational use of water, with energy efficiency and low environmental impact materials.
