Aras contests paper in attempted discount for J&F – 11/02/2023 – Panel

Allies of the former Attorney General of the Republic Augusto Aras dispute that he worked for a “discount” of R$6.8 billion for the leniency process involving J&F, owned by brothers Joesley and Wesley Batista.

Aras has said that it is a “wrong version” to attribute him to a connection with deputy attorney Ronaldo Albo, who proposed a reduction in the value of the agreement with the company. According to the leniency agreement agreed in 2017, J&F should pay R$10.3 billion in fines for corruption.

The attempt to reduce compensation ended up being overturned by the PGR Institutional Council.

According to what has been disseminated internally by Aras, Albo had a unanimous vote to form the Superior Council of the Federal Public Ministry, in addition to being a friend of the interim attorney general, Elizeta Ramos. This would show that he is not her “ally”.

The former PGR also refutes the thesis that the National Council of the Public Ministry, over which he would maintain strong influence, interfered in favor of the discount. He argues that the value of leniency is a topic under discussion in the courts, outside the authority’s jurisdiction.
