At a meeting promoted by the RenovaBR group in Brasília, the extraordinary secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Bernard Appy, estimated that the National Congress would approve the tax reform within six months.
Parliamentarians who participated in the meeting, which took place on Wednesday (8), are skeptical about the deadline established by the secretary. The working group that will deal with the matter in the Chamber should only be opened after Carnival and, after analysis by the deputies, approval from the Senate will still be required.
In addition, there is still no clarity about what the text will be, nor its impact. Present at the meeting, federal deputy Marangoni (União-SP) questioned the impact on tax collection in the states, fines and simplification of obligations. Appy quibbled.
As the Panel showed, the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), wants to take the text to the plenary vote in 60 days. Chosen by Alagoas to chair a working group on the subject, Deputy Reginaldo Lopes (PT-MG) asked for at least 90 days to build a consensual proposal.
