The Urban Development Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved a bill that provides for a fine for those who leave children under 12 years old unsupervised in vehicles, penthouses or common spaces in condominiums, such as swimming pools and elevators. The rule is inserted in the Child and Adolescent Statute.
The fine will be five to 20 minimum wages. The property manager who does not post information about age groups and conditions of use of common assets and spaces in a visible place may also be fined (three to 10 reference salaries).
The proposal was approved according to the substitute presented by the rapporteur, deputy Josenildo (PDT-AP), to a bill by former congresswoman Flordelis.
Cause
Josenildo stated that the measure is relevant because accidents are the biggest cause of death for children in Brazil. “Every year, around 3,600 children in this age group die and another 111,000 are hospitalized for accidental reasons, according to data from the Ministry of Health”he said.
The proposal will now be analyzed by the Social Security, Social Assistance, Childhood, Adolescence and Family committees; Finance and Taxation; and Constitution
