The councilor’s expectation is that the project will be sanctioned as soon as possible so that operators can start the licensing process for new towers

Manaus (AM) – After being voted on an urgent basis, the Complementary Bill amending § 1 of art. 20 of Law No. 17, of June 1, 2022, which provides for the procedure for installing support infrastructure for Radio Base Station (ERB) authorized and/or approved by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) in municipality of Manaus, authored by councilor Peixoto (Agir) was unanimously approved during the session this Wednesday (5), at the Manaus City Council (CMM). With the positive result, the project now goes to the sanction of the Municipal Executive.

The article deals with the increase in the licensing period for the towers where the antennas that transmit the signal are installed and thus improve the fifth generation internet service. With the amendment, a period of up to two years is granted, counting from the publication of the Law, for operators to adapt the necessary infrastructure.

According to Peixoto, this approval is beneficial for all mobile phone service users and for companies in Manaus, which will be able to count on greater 5G coverage.

“Our city was one of the first capitals to have the legislation for the installation of the necessary equipment to receive this technology, but it was still far from having good coverage and, according to the operators, a divergence in the interpretation of the Law caused this delay. That’s why I proposed this complement, to give us the chance to finally have better connectivity and a signal that serves all the urban and riverside areas of Manaus”,

explained.

The councilor’s expectation is that the project will be sanctioned as soon as possible so that operators can begin the licensing process for new towers.

“I know that Mayor David Almeida has the same interest in making Manaus a more technological city and I believe that this project should be sanctioned as soon as possible. Manaus wins and, mainly, the population wins, with a faster and safer internet”,

added Peixoto.
