The housing activist Guilherme Simões Pereira was appointed to the new Secretariat of Policies for Peripheral Territories of the Ministry of Cities. Member of the national coordination of the MTST (Movement of Homeless Workers), he was nominated by elected federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP).
Pereira will be responsible for dealing with issues such as urbanization of slums and dialogue with social movements in the periphery. He lives in the Grajaú neighborhood, in the south of São Paulo, and is also part of the black movement.
The new secretariat and Pereira’s nomination are part of an agreement for left-wing movements to be represented in the organizational chart of the Ministry of Cities, whose head is Jader Filho, from the MDB. The portfolio deals with topics such as housing, sanitation and urban transport.
