On the 22nd, Apple launched the iPhone 15 line and, with it, the iOS 17 operating system, which reached other Apple devices on Tuesday (26). The iPhones 8, 8 Plus, X and XR, now discontinued, were left out of the devices covered by the update — there is no iPhone 9.

These models, in addition to being stuck with iOS 16, no longer receive any technical assistance from Apple. Possible repairs are restricted to unauthorized workshops.

When you stop receiving updates, your smartphone becomes more vulnerable to digital attacks, as security breaches start to accumulate. Last month, for example, cybercriminals managed to infect an iPhone with the Pegasus spy app and Apple responded with an emergency repair for the devices in line.

Furthermore, French authorities detected levels of electromagnetic radiation beyond the value allowed by the standard in iPhones 12. The defect was corrected by a software update promoted by Apple itself.

With the arrival of new devices, Apple also tends to make older models cheaper. A Sheet showed that the drop in prices could reach 40%.

The following devices still receive technical support from Apple:

  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation)
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (3rd generation)
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max

Android devices, on average, stay on the market longer and have technical support available. On the other hand, they also depreciate in less time.
