The decision to shove down the throat of the change in the general regulation of competitions, providing for the punishment of clubs convicted of racist acts in games endorsed by the CBF, is a ball inside President Ednaldo Rodrigues.
Because if it were taken to plenary at the council that brought together representatives of the Serie A clubs at the entity’s headquarters, the idea would be published with reservations, or even shelved for greater understanding.
The pen of the leader, so to speak, obliges them to a civic and humanitarian advance in causes that are no longer tolerable.
Racism is a crime and we must all be vigilant on a daily basis to curb it on and off the football fields.
But the simple inclusion in the RGC of the tournaments it organizes does not make me sufficiently convinced that we will not see the shame played out in stadiums in Europe, especially in Spain.
The first step was taken, making clear the punishment for offenders: from a fine to loss of field control; from the closed stadium to the loss of points.
My doubt is regarding the forwarding of complaints, and the role of arbitrators in cases where the attacks are not explicit or flagrant.
It is not enough to create severe punishments to be deconstructed in sports courts.
It is necessary to make the agents of the spectacle aware of the gravity and not to give refreshment in the judgments.
Another point that deserves explanation is what involves the racist manifestations that occur in the atmosphere of the game, but outside the four lines.
Will fans be monitored?
Will isolated cases be subject to complaint?
Can attacks outside the stadium be taken to court?
Brazilian football has everything to make an incredible leap forward, fulfilling its role as one of the most important segments of society.
Hopefully this isn’t another wasted chance…
