The commander of the Army, General Tomás Paiva, said this Friday (27) that “no one is above the law” when asked about possible punishments for military personnel suspected of participating in the acts of January 8. The statement was made after a meeting between Paiva and the vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB).

“Whether military or civilian, no one is above the law. This we do with peace of mind”, Paiva told journalists. The commander stated that the visit to Alckmin was a “courtesy”. He was also asked about the possibility of new changes in the Army. “For the time being we are calm, when we have the normal administrative meetings, promotion and transfer, we will make the necessary changes”, he pointed out.

Paiva said he spoke with Alckmin about the Defense industry. The vice-president, who is also Minister of Industry, Trade and Development, is responsible for the defense industry revitalization program in Brazil.
