A bomb threat in the complex that brings together the Angra 1, 2 and 3 plants, in the city of Angra dos Reis (RJ), led to the activation of the emergency plan to protect the facilities, last Monday night (12).
After preliminary verification, the threat was found to be false. It was the first record of “hazing” at the site in at least 20 years.
The threat was received at 10:29 pm on Monday (12) by the security staff at the Almirante Álvaro Alberto Nuclear Center (CNAA), the name of the complex that brings together the two existing plants and the third, under construction.
Upon receipt of information about a bomb, the Physical Protection Plan for Nuclear Installations was immediately initiated, as required by protocol.
“After the execution of the referred procedure and detailed inspections, the threat was considered as ‘not confirmed’. Therefore, the foreseen subsequent actions were not initiated”, said an internal communiqué from Eletronuclear, which manages the complex, obtained by the Panel.
The company did not give further details about how the threat was received and where exactly the bomb would be.
The complex is a militarized and sensitive area, as it is located close to densely populated areas with large biological reserves in the south of Rio de Janeiro.
