In Angélica: 50 and so, the presenter opened up about the sexualization she suffered in childhood and the invasion of her privacy

About to turn 50, Angélica debuts this Sunday (26th) the special Angélica: 50 e Tanto, with five episodes already available on Globoplay. The first was attended by Sandy, Maísa and Fernanda Souza, as well as an intimate outburst by Angélica about episodes of sexual harassment she suffered when she was a child.

Angélica began by saying that she almost had to adopt another identity. “I’m Angélica by a whisker. When I was going to debut on TV, a very powerful man thought that my stage name had to be Lolita, like the girl in the book”, said the presenter, referring to the famous novel by Vladimir Nabokov in which a 12-year-old girl is abused by her stepfather.

“It was right around that time that the man asked me to sit on his lap backstage on TV. He was an adult and I was a child. And I did everything without understanding. Today I understand”, said the blonde, who began her career in beauty contests and later migrated to channels such as Manchete, SBT and Globo.

Angélica also remembered how people invaded her privacy and sexualized her. “I remember arriving at places and being asked if I was a virgin. I was a child and I kept asking myself what that topic was. They sexualized our lives in a way that we didn’t even understand what was happening,” she recalled.

“I spent a long time answering whether I was a virgin. And at some point I stopped being, right? But people kept asking and I thought: ‘What now?’. I kept answering that it was, what were I going to say?”
