André Janones is sentenced to indemnify Nikolas Ferreira – 04/25/2023 – Politics

Federal deputy André Janones (Avante-MG) was ordered to pay compensation of R$ 5,000 for moral damages to fellow federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) for postings on social networks.
The parliamentarian alleges damage to his image for having been called a pedophile in publications. The decision is taken by Justice in Minas Gerais in the first instance, subject to appeal.
Janones is an ally of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and participated in the campaign of the current Chief Executive to the Planalto Palace last year. Nikolas is one of the main supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), defeated in the dispute with Lula.
In last year’s campaign, when Janones and Nikolas were running for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies, the Avante congressman published on Twitter that “a pedophile councilor” was questioning his registration as a lawyer at the OAB (Brazilian Bar Association). The term has been used in other publications.
In the sentence, Judge Flavio Catapani, from the Special Civil Court of Belo Horizonte, denied Janones’ argument that there was no mention of his name in the publication.
“The set of evidence presented in the complaint and in the petitions prior to the contestation allow us to conclude that, without much effort, an ordinary citizen would be able to relate the content of the publications of the promoted [alvo da ação] with the author [do processo].”
This Tuesday (25), the parliamentarian reaffirmed his position to the report, that he did not mention names, and said he will appeal the decision, taken on Wednesday (19).
Nikolas Ferreira went to social networks to complain about the amount of compensation established in the sentence and also said that he will appeal the decision.
“When I say that the grass is green, I am condemned at 80 thousand. When Janones accuses me of being involved with pedophilia and rape, he is condemned at 5 thousand… defends his honor, even more so against this scoundrel”, he published.
