Anderson Torres’ defense dismisses award-winning denunciation – 05/12/2023 – Politics

Anderson Torres’ defense ruled out this Friday morning (12) the possibility of an award-winning collaboration agreement, but said that the former minister will collaborate with the investigations reported by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) .

“No, there is no such possibility of a denunciation. What Anderson will do is cooperate so that the facts that led to those hateful acts of January 8 are clarified as soon as possible”, said lawyer Eumar Novacki at a press conference for a journalist at his desk.

The defender was also questioned about the cell phone passwords that Torres had promised and not given to the authorities, which was used by Moraes to keep him in custody until this Thursday (11).

According to Novacki, the PF sent a report that would indicate that there was no problem with the passwords and that, if Moraes appoints an expert, Torres will open the contents of the devices to Justice.

“He presented the passwords, it came out in the press that they were wrong, that’s not the story. With the PF report we also answered why there was a technical failure and made it available, in case the minister determines the expert, let’s go act willingly to open up all information,” he said.

Asked whether prison would be a way to pressure Torres to report, Novacki said he did not see the measures as a way for Justice to force an agreement in which the former minister surrenders former president Jair Bolsonaro.

For him, Torres’ defender managed to show the minister that there was no longer a need for precautionary arrest.

Torres left prison on Thursday night (11). He had been arrested since January for alleged omission in the January 8 coup attacks.

In the decision that released Torres, Moraes determined precautionary measures such as the use of an electronic ankle bracelet and a ban on leaving the Federal District or going out at night and on weekends.

Torres, who is a Federal Police chief, was also removed from office. He will have to hand over his passport and report to the Federal District’s Criminal Execution Court every week, in addition to having his possession of a firearm suspended.

“At the present time of the criminal investigation, the reasons for maintaining the extreme precautionary measure in relation to Anderson Gustavo Torres have ceased, as the necessary compatibility between Criminal Justice and the right to freedom demonstrates that the effectiveness of preventive detention has already achieved its purpose, with the effective carrying out of new police measures, which were pending”, stated Moraes.

In the operation that Torres was the target of, in January, the PF found in his residence a draft of a decree for Bolsonaro to establish a state of defense at the headquarters of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) at the end of last year. The objective would be to reverse the result of the election in which Lula (PT) won. Such a measure would be unconstitutional.
