At the end of December, residents of the Jardim Açucena Housing Complex, located in the south zone of Macapá, received encouraging news that promises to transform the dynamics of leisure and sports in the community. A parliamentary amendment worth R$1.2 million, allocated by state deputy Júnior Favacho (MDB), was the key to enabling the construction of a sports complex in the region. The service order signing ceremony, which marked the beginning of the works, was attended by the mayor of Macapá, Antônio Furlan, as well as the deputy himself.

The work, with a total budget of R$1.5 million, covers the revitalization of sports courts and the creation of a space dedicated to families. This will include tables for games of chess, checkers, futmesa, dominoes, as well as facilities for tennis and ping-pong, swings, playground and toys accessible for People with Disabilities (PWD). The Municipal Department of Works and Urban Infrastructure (Semob) is responsible for implementing the project, which has the potential to benefit approximately seven thousand residents.

During the ceremony, deputy Júnior Favacho expressed his satisfaction with the city hall’s initiative to revitalize the space and highlighted the fruitful collaboration between his mandate and the administration of mayor Furlan. “When we analyzed the distribution of our amendments, we found that almost half of them were allocated to Macapá, reflecting our commitment to the effectiveness in the application of these resources. We look forward to continuing this partnership in 2024, contributing to the transformation of Macapá”declared Favacho.

Mayor Furlan highlighted the constant delivery of works and signing of work orders as a characteristic of his management, something that has only been possible thanks to the support of allies like Favacho. “He has been a true friend of Macapá, and together, we have managed to provide the population with spaces that significantly improve the quality of life of Macapá residents. I am confident that residents will make good use of the complex, which will serve people of all ages for leisure, games, fun and fun.”said Furlan.

Élido Pinheiro Carvalho, resident of Jardim Açucena and coordinator of a social project for children in the community, celebrated the beginning of the works as the fulfillment of an old desire. “The reform is a victory for all of us, promoting improvements in the quality of life of young people. Sport is a powerful tool for transformation, and spaces like this are essential to motivate our children and adolescents to follow promising paths”, commented.

Lucas Thiago, a 20-year-old athlete from Amapá and resident of Jardim Açucena, stood out at the event. Called up to the Brazilian wheelchair basketball team and world jiu-jitsu champion in his category, Lucas sees the sports complex as an opportunity to discover new talents. “This complex could be the birthplace of many athletes”, projected the young man.
