Ambev opens Beer Academy, in Pinheiros – 12/19/2023 – Full Cup

In December 2020, the Covid pandemic still kept the country under restrictions, waiting for the first vaccine. It was in this scenario that Ambev created the Beer Academy, with courses, classes and lectures only in the online environment, aimed mainly at the consumer public, all free of charge.

The idea was to go from virtual to physical the following year, but the health crisis changed priorities and the project had to wait practically three years. This Wednesday (20), the Academia da Cerveja finally materializes at a real address, at number 560 Rua Mourato Coelho, in Pinheiros (west region of São Paulo).

“The space is a new phase of the Academy”, celebrates Alexandre Esber, space manager and member of Ambev’s beer knowledge and culture team. “We will have courses here for the consumer public, but who do not have a huge literacy, for enthusiasts, who are not so beginners, and for professionals who work with beer”, he says, while showing the modulated rooms of the academy, which occupies the area of an old warehouse, between Cardeal Arcoverde and Teodoro Sampaio streets. Many basic one-hour courses are expected to remain free.

The space accommodates around one hundred students, who can be distributed in three modular rooms with accessibility, called Hops, Yeast and Cereals (beer is not only made from malt).

There is also a counter with six taps and a beautiful brewing kitchen, with 250-liter tanks and fermenters; a mini-laboratory completes the modern structure, all available to future students.

From this Wednesday (20th) it will be possible to register on the Academia da Cerveja website for courses that should take place from the beginning of 2024. Many free lectures will continue to be available online, such as the recent Christmas Harmonizations course, which lasts just 20 minutes.

Other free classes include topics such as beer color, brewing schools, glass: the art of serving, as well as style classes, from IPA to non-alcoholic beers.

“We have around 70 hours of free material, via video. But the idea is to have paid courses, mainly from the Pro line. Our objective has always been to democratize brewing knowledge and take this conversation to more places”, explains Esber.
