Manaus (AM) – The 108th edition of the Amazonense Football Championship starts this Friday (19). The opening match of Barezão 2024 will be held in Manacapuru (84 kilometers from Manaus), where Princesa do Solimões and Unidos do Alvorada duel at the Gilberto Mestrinho stadium, known as Gilbertão. In total, ten clubs are in contention: Amazonas, Nacional, Manaus, Operário, Alvorada, Manauara, Princesa do Solimões, Parintins, Rio Negro and São Raimundo.

Full of sporting and organizational innovations, this season’s State Championship will be played in a new format. This year, ten teams will fight for the main title in Baré football and for places in next season’s regional and national competitions.

Dispute formula

Barezão 2024 will be played in two rounds of straight points, in which the ten teams will be divided into two groups of five. In each round, the first four placed in each group qualify for the quarter-finals.

The knockout stages will be played in single games, with a field advantage for the best placed in the group stage. At the end of the two rounds, the general final will be held by the champions of each round. If the champion of the first round is the same as the second, the club will automatically be declared Amazonian champion.

In this edition, Barezão will have three relegated teams and, consequently, only one club will gain access to the elite, through the 2024 Series B. In other words, from 2025 onwards, the championship will have eight participants and only one team will be relegated .

Barezão Trophy 2024

“Encontro das Vidas” is the name of the trophy that will be raised by the champion of Barezão 2024. In honor of one of the greatest postcards in the North region of the country, the award is made up of: glass structure, with a rounded wooden base, with bronze metallic appliqué, symbolizing the Solimões River and metallic blackpiano appliqué, symbolizing the Rio Negro. At the top there is an engraved glass ball and at the bottom there is the champion’s coat of arms in metal.

Debut round

In addition to the duel between Princesa and Alvorada in Manacapuru, the opening round of Barezão 2024 will feature four more matches. On Saturday (20), Nacional and São Raimundo will star in the blue classic, at 3:30 pm, at the Ismael Benigno stadium, Colina. On the same day, but at 7:30 pm, RPE Parintins hosts Operário, at the Francisco Garcia stadium, in Rio Preto da Eva.

On Sunday (21), Manaus and Rio Negro face off, starting at 3:30 pm, at Colina. On the same day and time, Amazonas and Manauara re-edit the last Barezão final, at the Carlos Zamith stadium.

Inclusive initiatives

In 2023, the FAF became the first Federation in the country to offer noise-muffling headphones for fans with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In the current season, the entity will continue with the initiative and will make earmuffs available in the 2024 Amazonense Championship matches, in greater quantities.

Caboco do Jogo

A success in 2023, the “Caboco do Jogo” award, an award offered to the player with the best performance in each match, will have the same selection format in 2024. Three journalists present at the game in question will choose the winner.

With an Amazonian linguistic slang, which refers to the land’s mestizos, the first inhabitants of the post-colonial Amazon in its name, this year’s trophy has a design in the shape of the glove used by indigenous people in the tucandeira ritual.
