Amazonas promotes new champions in the 36th Osvaldo Alves Jiu-Jitsu Cup

Athletes from the Formando Champions project won medals in the junior, children’s and youth categories
With 19 gold medals, seven silver and six bronze, in the junior, children’s and youth categories, athletes from the Formando Champions project, linked to the Sports and Leisure Program in the Capital and Interior (Pelci), are highlights in the 36th edition of the Osvaldo Cup Alves of Jiu-jitsu. The competition had the support of the Government of Amazonas and was held last Sunday (24), at Arena Amadeu Teixeira.
“Governor Wilson Lima has invested in creating public policies to strengthen Amazonian sport, including martial arts. With the support of the event, more than 800 young jiu-jitsu talents, we have revealed a new generation of champions who will certainly represent Amazonas in major competitions”,
emphasized Jorge Oliveira, Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure (Sedel).
This year’s Osvaldo Alves Jiu-Jitsu Cup saw the participation of 800 athletes from the junior to master categories. The competition organized by the Amazonas Jiu-Jitsu Federation (FJJAM), in addition to classifying athletes for national competitions, aims to reveal new talents in Amazonian jiu-jitsu.
Rafaele Oliveira, 8 years old, an Amazonian jiu-jitsu athlete and student at the Santa Etelvina group, stood out in the heavyweight youth category, taking the gold medal. “It was really cool, I came first, my opponent gave her arm and I finished, I feel happy”he said.
Having been on the path to major competitions for a year now, Rafaele Oliveira has already reached the highest place on the podium six times, being undefeated champion in her category in the North and Northeast Jiu-Jitsu Cup, Copa América, Amazonas Jiu-Jitsu Cup and , now, Osvaldo Alves Jiu-jitsu Cup.
“I just have to thank Pelci. I have two children who participate in the program and have even improved in their studies, instead of being on television they are training. It is a pride as a father to see my two sons on the path of sport, becoming champions”,
said Rafael Lopes, father of Rafaele and Jhonatan Maxwell, 15 years old.
