The participation of 9 governors, 14 embassies and seven ministries is confirmed
Manaus (AM) – Between today (8) and Friday (10), Amazonas hosts the 26th Legal Amazon Governors Forum. The meeting of state managers takes place at the Vasco Vasques Convention Center, with discussions focused on preserving the Amazon region and the local population as protagonists.
The Interstate Consortium for Sustainable Development of the Legal Amazon is a joint initiative of the governors of the nine states that make up the Legal Amazon, to create and boost sustainable development based on common policies and strategies. Among the topics under debate are Agriculture, Environment, Public Security and Finance.
Governor Wilson Lima emphasizes that debates must consider reality, the complexity of those who live in the Amazon, the livelihood of the populations that inhabit the region, providing subsistence conditions through the generation of jobs, access to drinking water and the connection of Internet.
“The Amazon Consortium is a legal instrument to effectively make this happen. It is very important because the world today talks about the Amazon, about the environment and the population must be a protagonist in the process”,
says Wilson Lima.
The participation of 9 governors, 14 embassies and seven ministries has been confirmed, as well as secretaries of Agriculture, Finance, Public Security, Environment, Mining and Planning, all from the Legal Amazon.
The event also features 17 members of the Board of Directors of the Legal Amazon Consortium, 12 representatives from Legal Amazon Land Institutes and four members of the team from the Legal Amazon Interstate Consortium for Sustainable Development.
On November 8th and 9th, meetings of sectoral councils and chambers will take place; and on the 10th, the General Assembly of Governors.
