Amazonas Defender’s Office opens its own headquarters in Alto Solimões and strengthens services

Located in Tabatinga, the new building has a large and modern structure to serve the region’s population

Tabatinga (AM) — The Public Defender’s Office of the State of Amazonas (DPE-AM) inaugurated, this Friday (12), its own headquarters at the Alto Solimões Center. Located in Tabatinga (1107 km from Manaus), the new unit will strengthen access to free justice in the region and offer more comfort to those assisted.

The ceremony was attended by the public defender general, Ricardo Paiva, the deputy defender general Manuela Cantanhede Veiga Antunes, the vice-mayor of Tabatinga, Plínio Cruz, the mayor of Atalaia do Norte, Denis Paiva, the attorney general of Justice from Amazonas, Alberto Rodrigues do Nascimento, as well as defenders who work at the hub and authorities.

Ricardo Paiva thanked those present for their commitment and dedication to the process of internalizing the DPE. “The opening of our own headquarters means much more than just a physical space. It represents the work of many hands who try every day to change the lives of those in need. The investment in the capital and especially in the interior is to ensure that anyone who knocks on our doors is served with dignity,” he concluded.

For the coordinator of the DPE/AM hub in Alto Solimões, public defender Murilo Breda, the new headquarters represents a historic moment for the Public Defender’s Office in the region.

“I feel very honored to participate in this important ceremony for the population of Tabatinga, who live in a triple border area, which generates a series of demands from vulnerable people due to the most diverse situations”,

he stated.

The Attorney General of Amazonas, Alberto Rodrigues do Nascimento, recognized the work of the Public Defender’s Office in the interior of Amazonas, with the expansion of services and the installation of its own units. “Congratulations on the new home, on the institution’s commitment to fighting for the rights of those who need it most. Always count on the Public Ministry”, he highlighted.

In addition to Tabatinga, the hub also serves the municipalities of Amaturá, Atalaia do Norte, Benjamin Constant, Santo Antônio do Içá, São Paulo de Olivença and Tonantins.

New address

The new headquarters of the Alto Solimões Center is located on Rua Coronel Berg, s/n°, in the Comunicação neighborhood, and has a large and modern structure to welcome the population. The location has service counters, multifunctional rooms, bathrooms and accessible ramps.

In addition to Murilo Breda, four other defenders play at the center: André Azevedo Beltrão, Danielle Mascarenhas Cunha de Almeida, Jéssica Cristina Melo de Matos and Leandro Antunes de Miranda Zanata. The unit also has employees from the house and those provided by other bodies to ensure agility and efficiency in the provision of services.

Numbers

The Alto Solimões Center was the fifth to be installed by the Public Defender’s Office, in November 2019, and since then it has recorded more than 48 thousand acts of assistance. Today, with its own structure, the proposal is to strengthen these services, ensuring convenience, comfort and safety for those assisted and employees.

Currently, the unit reaches around 210 thousand people in the region, meeting the most diverse demands in the areas of Family, Criminal and Civil.

“From now on, employees will be better able to carry out their duties for the benefit of those assisted at the Alto Solimões Complex. We will have specific spaces for meetings with bodies and institutions from all districts, in addition to a room designed for more delicate services, which require greater confidentiality, seeking a safe environment for the user”, concluded defender Murilo Breda.
