The program begins at 9 am, in the hall of the Braille Library of the State of Amazonas, located in block C of the Sambódromo, with a tribute to Amazonian writers who have works published in Braille, such as Márcio Souza, Thiago de Mello, Ana Peixoto and Rebeca Beatriz .

The Amazonas Braille Library will complete 25 years of existence in 2024. The space aims to integrate, promote and include people with visual impairments in the social, cultural, educational and professional environment, improving living, studying and coexistence conditions to contribute to preparation of works and research.

The collection has more than 50 thousand works, including digitized books, talking books, works in Braille and films with audio description. In addition, it has been responsible for the audio description of shows at Teatro Amazonas since 2009. The space also provides recording studios, Braille typewriters, special computers, Braille printers, voice scanners and electronic magnifying glasses.

In addition to making material available, the Braille Library also promotes courses for the visually impaired covering various topics. Due to the services offered in the space, more than 50 people with disabilities managed to pass competitions and more than 260 in entrance exams.

“It is a very important initiative to guarantee the inclusion of People with Disabilities in society, offering the opportunity to acquire knowledge in an accessible way for them”, declares the Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy of Amazonas, Marcos Apolo Muniz.

For Gilson Mauro, manager of the Braille Library, the existence of inclusive cultural equipment is something that marks people’s lives. “The Braille Library makes dreams come true, respects People with Disabilities and will always work to guarantee the citizenship of these people”, he stated.
