Education in Amazonas

In the state of Amazonas alone, there will be 1,693 schools, in 16 municipalities, benefiting 158,788 students

Manaus (AM) — Aprendir Conectado, a school connectivity project being implemented by the School Connectivity Administrative Entity – Eace, is starting the quotation for hiring internet providers, internal network and photovoltaic system for the schools that will be served in phases 2 and 3 of the project. In the state of Amazonas alone, there will be 1,693 schools, in 16 municipalities, benefiting 158,788 students.

The continuity of Learning Connected in phases 2 and 3 will serve, in total, 5,107 schools, in 51 Municipalities, in seven states in the North and Northeast regions of the country (AC, AM, AP, BA, MA, PA and RR). A technical inspection has already been carried out in 99% of schools, the first step towards including the units in Learning Connected. The units will receive broadband internet and Wi-Fi throughout the school environment.

The quotation or RFP (Request for Proposal) was launched last Wednesday, 28th, and is aimed at terrestrial connectivity providers, internal Wi-Fi network providers and photovoltaic system suppliers to serve schools that do not have an electrical network. Interested suppliers can obtain more information and participate at www.eace.org.br/rfp.

The initiative was approved by the Cost Monitoring Group for School Connectivity Projects (Gape), which monitors the work carried out by Eace and the Anatel Board of Directors.

Pilot project

Started in November 2022, the Learn Conectado pilot project’s main objective was to map the difficulties and understand the best way to bring connectivity to schools.

The project was completed in August last year in 177 public basic education schools in ten municipalities in the five regions of the country (North, Northeast, South, Southeast and Central-West). All units received broadband internet and Wi-Fi throughout the school environment and computer kits.

Understand the Learn Connected project

The Aprendir Conectado project emerged with the 5G Notice, which allocated resources of around R$3.1 billion to bring connectivity to public basic education schools, with the quality and speed necessary for the pedagogical use of Information and Communication Technologies ( ICTs) in educational activities.

The project aims to serve public schools across the country, including those located in indigenous communities, quilombolas and settlements, guaranteeing broadband internet connection and Wi-Fi, even for those that do not have energy.

To define the project criteria and manage its resources, the Costing Monitoring Group for School Connectivity Projects (GAPE) was created, composed of Anatel, the ministries of Education and Communications, and the winning companies in the 26 GHz band, Algar Telecom, Claro, Telefônica, owner of the Vivo brand, and TIM, who created the School Connectivity Administrative Entity (EACE), responsible for executing the project. GAPE is chaired by Anatel’s advisor, Vicente Aquino, and has the mission of establishing guidelines and monitoring the work carried out by Eace.
