On Sunday night, January 28th, the Pan American Taekwondo Union Gala Night took place in Querétaro, Mexico. Taekwondo icons from the Continent were present at the celebration, as well as the governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri.
Amapá president Alberto Maciel Júnior represented Brazilian Taekwondo and received four important titles that show his excellent work in the sport, two individual and two for teams.
In the individual awards, Clayton dos Santos, coach of the Brazilian team, was chosen as the best female coach on the continent. Silvana Fernandes, who had already been chosen as a highlight of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee, was elected the best para-athlete on the continent in 2023.
The Confederation received two of the most important titles: best Continental Federation management and best Team Kyorugui.
Remembering that in 2023, Brazil won third place in the Pan American Games, was Champion of the Team World Cup and third place in the Team Super World Cup, which gave Brazil qualification for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 , in addition to brilliant individual results such as athlete Maria Clara Pacheco’s bronze medal and Caroline Gomes’ silver medal at the World Championships.
Another important factor for the award were the events held in Brazil in 2023, which were praised by the PATU presidency as Qualifiers for the Pan American Games, Pan Series and Presidents CUP.
