Next August, a private enterprise at km 30 of the BR-156 will harvest 100 hectares of non-transgenic soybeans, the result of a pilot project for this crop financed by the French government.
The information was given firsthand by the state secretary for international relations, Lucas Abrahao, in the early evening of Thursday, June 1, on the program ‘Meeting Point’ (Diary FM 90.9).
The secretary explained that non-transgenic soy has no genetic modification, which is why it is preferred by the European market, which should be one of the consumers of the product planted and harvested in Amapá, if the crop succeeds in the state.
Lucas added that with non-genetically modified soybeans, the French government’s systematic acquisition of products from Amapá could be reduced in space and time. Instead of following the route Amapá-França-French Guiana, it will go directly to the overseas department, via BR-156.
On the radio program, secretary Lucas Abrahao also spoke of the importance of the webinar promoted by the 22nd Jungle Infantry Brigade, on the 13th and 14th next, with the theme ‘The strategic importance of the mouth of the Amazon’. Abrahao will be one of the speakers. He will discuss ‘The geopolitical scenario of the Amazon and its strategic importance for Brazil’.
