With support from the State Government, Amapá will host the Brazilian Under-16 Basketball Teams. The disputes begin next Thursday (04) and continue until May 7, at the Poliesportivo Avertino Ramos Gym, with the participation of teams from Maranhão and Pará.
There will be around 60 athletes and coaches who will be arriving in Macapá on May 3rd, in addition to the Amapa team, which has a team of 30 people. The Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure (Sedel) is a partner of the competition, responsible for hosting, feeding and transporting the delegations.
The Amapá team continues to train at full steam with 24 athletes. Preparation is taking place four times a week at Ginásio Avertino Ramos. “This is a great opportunity for us to observe the level of our basketball base in Amapá, where many will play for the first time against athletes from other states. In addition, we have a gym that offers an excellent structure to host the games in the highest possible quality”, said the secretary of Sports and Leisure, Rudney Cunha.
Back on the national stage
Amapá returns to host national basketball competitions after six years. The last time was in 2017, when Santos-AP played in the Golden League and received teams from Botafogo-RJ, Contagem-MG and Blumenau-SC.
The competition is organized by the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB). The winners will receive medals and trophies, in addition to a place for the champion to participate in the national stage of the tournament.
