The adult men’s and women’s handball teams in Amapá had the support of the Sport and Leisure Coordination (Comel), of the City of Macapá, to participate in the Handzad championship, which takes place in French Guiana. The event started on April 9th and runs until Sunday (16th). The women’s team faced the Guyanese team in their first game, and the men’s team had its first game with Martinique.
Comel was responsible for maintaining the bus that took the athletes and officials to French Guiana, in addition to providing food for the delegation during the tournament.
The women’s team ended up losing the first game to the Guyanese team, with a final score of 33×17. The male team faced difficulties in canceling the speed of the Martinique players, and lost the match by 36×21. The games took place on Tuesday (11).
The Sport and Leisure coordinator of Macapá, Bruno Igreja, highlighted the importance of Comel’s support for the teams’ participation in the tournament.
“The support offered allowed the team to travel and stay safely, in addition to ensuring the athletes and officials were fed throughout the event. Through incentives and support, it is possible to ensure that more people have access to sport and can develop their skills”, stated.
