Among Brazilian states, Amapá achieved the highest growth in the nominal monthly income per capita of the resident population, in 2023, registering an increase of 29.1% compared to the previous year. The advancement is the result of a set of strategic actions and policies implemented by the State Government in the areas of commerce, industry and services to boost the local economy with more job and income opportunities for the people of Amapá.

The average monthly household income in Amapá was R$1,520, the third highest in the northern region. The data comes from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PnadC) and was released on Wednesday, 29, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Per capita household income was calculated as the ratio between total household income (in nominal terms) and the total number of household residents, including those classified as pensioners, beneficiaries of social programs, domestic employees and their relatives.

More jobs and new businesses

According to the State Secretariat for Planning (Seplan), the employment generation numbers in Amapá were well above the average of previous years, with a balance of 5,701 new jobs, being the largest relative variation in jobs in the country, with an increase of 7.45%, higher than the average for the northern region, with 5.21% and Brazil, with 3.50%.

The positive results are the result of the State Government’s actions in implementing public policies in the economic sector that made it possible to attract new investments and open local companies with the use of labor in various activities. Amapá registered the opening of 1,700 new businesses in 2023 and a 400% increase in the issuance of environmental licensing, a document that grants authorization for the operation of enterprises.

Bioeconomy and sustainable development

The Amapá Seal Program, developed by the State Government, values products that use local raw materials and respect quality control, environmental and labor laws, adding economic and environmental value to genuinely Amapá products.

“The Seal brand is a stimulus to the import substitution process, with recognition of products in national and international trade, in addition to stimulating the consumption of genuinely Amapá products”, highlights the vice-governor of Amapá, Teles Junior.

In the forestry sector, the basis of the state’s economy, there has also been progress. 30 Forest Exploitation Authorizations (Autex) were issued in 2023, while in 2022 there were only 6, an increase of 400%. Among them, the licensing of the largest sustainable forest management plan in Brazil, the PAE Maracá Project, stands out, generating employment and income for the residents of Mazagão.

Strengthening the economy with major events

The cultural sector is seen as fundamental to the economic development of the state. With this in mind, in 2023, as a policy of appreciation and historical recovery, the State Government brought back major events, such as the schools parade at the Sambadrome, New Year’s Eve Beira Rio, Expofeira and Arraiá do Povo.

The 52nd Expofeira guaranteed more than R$5.7 million in income for entrepreneurs, in addition to boosting more than 6 thousand jobs in various sectors. In just three days of event, New Year’s Eve Beira Rio 2024 generated income of more than R$1 million for workers in the capital.

More servers and salary adjustment

As a policy of valuing public servants, the State Government, throughout 2023, called on more than 2,600 successful candidates in the Scientific Police, Education, Military Police, Fire Department, Civil Police, Institute of Penitentiary Administration (Iapen) and the State Department of Traffic (Detran).

Furthermore, state public servants had a linear salary adjustment of 5.6%, which represents an injection of R$176 million per month into the local economy, in addition to the 4.8% adjustment only for education professionals.

For the vice-governor, Teles Junior, the perspective is that income rates will increase with each year of management, where investments made in previous years of work strengthen projects for the coming years.

“Still in 2024, we will reap the fruits of environmental licensing, with areas that are adding more than 12 hectares to production areas in the area of commercial agriculture alone. We will also have new actions for the renewable energy stimulus programs and Selo Amapá, in addition to consolidating funding carried out by the State Government from the New PAC, with more than 28 billion reais planned to expand investments in the public and private sector”, highlights Teles.
