Deputies allied with Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP) in the Assembly have warned the governor and secretaries not to send the project that proposes an increase in ICMS in the state, as there is no climate for approval. Bolsonaro parliamentarians openly say they will vote against the proposal.
The states of the Southeast and South, with the exception of Santa Catarina, published a letter stating that it is necessary to increase the ICMS to guarantee greater revenue after the Tax Reform comes into force. The participation of each state in the collection of the new tax that will be placed in place of the ICMS, the IBS, will depend on the average ICMS revenue in the period 2024-2028.
Parliamentarians say that the time is bad to send the project because the House is discussing another delicate topic, the privatization of Sabesp. Furthermore, they state that businesspeople have suffered losses due to the blackouts and this is not the time to deal with tax increases.
On the other hand, the government is urgent in approving the measure, so that the increase comes into force in time to affect the ICMS average upwards in 2024.
“We are totally against it. I wouldn’t even send a project in that sense. It was our battlehorse against the PSDB. We don’t see it as positive for society. We didn’t promise the population that we would increase taxes, quite the opposite”, he says Bolsonaro state deputy Gil Diniz (PL).
The positioning should mark the debut of a Bolsonarist bloc in Alesp, initially composed of Diniz, Lucas Bove, Major Mecca (PL-SP) and Tenente Coimbra (PL-SP). The expectation is to reach 12 deputies, who promise to act independently in relation to Tarcísio
“Our intention is to work in defense of our flags, as well as combating agendas known to be defended by the left, such as tax increases, for example”, says Bove.
