AliExpress returns to advertising with a gun photo – 03/30/2023 – Panel SA

The Conar (National Council for Self-Regulation in Advertising) recommended the Chinese online sales giant AliExpress to suspend an ad that displayed a sticker with a picture of a gun.

In July last year, the agency made the same decision in a similar case also on AliExpress.

As in the previous complaint, the rapporteur considered that the advertisement did not make it clear that it was a sticker and not a real weapon.

As pointed out by Conar, in its defense, the company claimed that there was a failure in the categorization of the product, which has already been corrected.

Sought by Panel SA, AliExpress said that it “respects local regulations and categorizes which items can be offered in each market in which it operates, according to the specific legislation of each country”.
