After the visit of lawyers to the magistrates’ offices of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) this week, the minister Alexandre de Moraes granted provisional freedom to 18 arrested on January 8th. The release permits were issued last Friday (15), and the expectation of the Association of Relatives and Victims of January 8th (Asfav) is that they will be released from prison by this Sunday (17).

Prisoner Claudinei Pego da Silva, who attempted suicide on January 9th, at the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, is not among those released. He suffers from comorbidities and has already had an opinion from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) in favor of provisional release, but freedom was denied by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

Other prisoners with serious comorbidities, such as the farmer Jorginho Cardoso de Azevedoaged 63, and the engineer Renan da Silva Sena, aged 60, also remain in prison. The two were mentioned prominently in the letter delivered by Asfav to ministers this week and have already been mentioned in a report by Gazeta do Povo due to the seriousness of the cases.

The document prepared by the lawyers also mentioned prisoners who have young children, such as Thiago de Assis Mathar, from São José do Rio Preto, who has a four-year-old daughter and a seven-year-old son.

Another mentioned is Matheus Lima Carvalho Lázaro, from Paraná, arrested on January 8th when his wife was early in her pregnancy. Currently, the baby is five months old and has only seen his father on his visits to Papuda. The family lives in the city of Apucarana, and has faced financial difficulties.

“We planned a lot for our son’s arrival, as we have been married for four years, and it has been very difficult to go through all of this alone”, says wife Kimberley Lázaro, 24 years old. “Arthur needs his father.”

According to information from Asfav, the 26 prisoners with a favorable opinion from the Prosecutor’s Office, 16 got freedom this weekend. Among them is Claudiomiro da Rosa Soares, who uses a catheter to urinate and needed to leave prison for health care.

“We are at the Integrated Electronic Monitoring Center (CIME) receiving these patriots who are leaving, and we believe that others will be released this week”, said lawyer Ezequiel Silveira, while waiting with family and friends on Saturday afternoon (16).

“We’re not going to stop,” says lawyer

According to him, the first time he arrived at the Federal Police Academy, on January 9, there were almost 2 thousands arrested people. “Now are 20 because we fought all this year and achieved freedom of 99% of people”, he reported, stating that he will not stop “until the last innocent person leaves prison”.
