Manaus (AM) – At least six women have already reported app driver Marcelo Augusto Lima da Silva, from the InDrive platform, who is suspected of serial rapes in Manaus. One of the victims, Ingrid Tavares de Oliveira, gave a press conference in the press room of the Amazonas Legislative Assembly this Thursday (21), alongside state deputy Alessandra Campelo (Podemos), the House’s Special Prosecutor for Women. Together, they demanded the immediate arrest of the suspect.

At the press conference, Ingrid revealed that the attempted rape took place last Sunday (17), when she requested the Adrianópolis race to return to her home, in Nova Cidade, in the North Zone. She was the first woman to report the app driver on social media. After the post, other women contacted Ingrid and recognized Marcelo Augusto as the perpetrator of rapes during rides on app transport.

“It is not just for me, but for all the victims that I decided to expose myself, to put my face out there, until justice is done. The feeling I feel now is of injustice because he is living his life, while I am stuck in my house, I can’t work, I can’t do the things I did before. The feeling is injustice until he is caught,”

Ingrid said.

State deputy Alessandra Campelo informed that the Aleam Women’s Attorney is working with the Civil Police and the Judiciary for the preventive arrest of the suspect. After the complaint made by the parliamentarian in the plenary session on Wednesday (20), InDrive issued a note informing the driver’s dismissal from the platform.

“Ingrid’s courage in making the complaint prompted other women to speak out. So there are already five more victims, with her six, one of which was a completed rape. We hope that, as a matter of urgency, the arrest of this man will be requested and carried out. It is worth mentioning that the InDrive application only blocked this driver after our complaint here at the Assembly”, said Alessandra Campelo.
