Aleam highlights Laws and Bills for the benefit of pregnant women

Manaus (AM) – This Tuesday (15) when Pregnant Women’s Day is celebrated, the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam) highlights the date and apparatus of Bills in progress related to the subject, in addition to the sanctioned Laws.

Commenting on the date, congresswoman Joana Darc (UB) recalled the institution of Parliamentary Maternity Leave with Legislative Resolution No. 787/2021 at the time she was pregnant with her first child, Joaquim.

“There was no provision for maternity leave in the Assembly. We had to make a change to the bylaws during the term so that I could take my four month maternity leave. I am happy to be part of this history”

Separately, deputy Alessandra Campêlo (Podemos) announced that the resolution will be amended by the deputies to extend the period of maternity leave to six months, in line with what already happens in the Public Service.

On the occasion, Joana Darc also highlighted Law nº 5740/2021, which defined the right of the presence of an interpreter, preferably female, of the Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS), to accompany the prenatal consultation and the work of delivery of pregnant women with hearing impairment.

The law originated from PL nº 446/2020 at the initiative of the parliamentarian, who announced the proposition of an amendment to the law providing for the right to a companion for all people with disabilities.

On this day of the pregnant woman, PL nº 758/2023, presented by Deputy Mayra Dias (Avante), on the working conditions of Police and Military Firefighters and also Civil Police when pregnant and breastfeeding women. The purpose of the PL is to support pregnant and lactating servants who are part of the security forces in Amazonas, as a way of protecting them in the performance of their activities.

“It is necessary to establish a policy that ensures the removal of risky activities; access to adequate medical care; special working hours and other protective measures, in order to preserve the health of both the pregnant woman and the fetus. In addition, it is essential to combat any form of discrimination or harassment due to pregnancy, promoting a respectful and egalitarian work environment”

Also according to the project, pregnant Police and Military Firefighters and Civil Police officers are allowed to participate in activities that require work in an environment outside the department, a daily shift of more than eight hours at night, with accumulation of functions in distant locations or that , in any way, pose a risk to the pregnant woman or the fetus, such as: approaches, pursuits, exposure to harmful chemical products, smoke, excessive heat and work in unhealthy environments.

In addition, pregnant military police, military firefighters and civil police officers will be entitled to special working hours, which allow them to adapt their routine to the needs of prenatal care, medical examinations, consultations and other activities related to pregnancy and monitoring of the pregnancy. fetal health.

Also authored by Deputy Mayra, PL nº 727/2023 is being processed by the Committees of the Legislative House and makes it mandatory to carry out serological tests for pregnant women, aiming at the diagnosis of infection by the human T-cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV-I and HTLV-II ) and the treatment of identified cases.

According to the parliamentarian, the support of the Government is essential to reduce people’s suffering in relation to this little-known virus, providing serological tests, mainly during prenatal care and breastfeeding. The disease, which is similar to HIV even in the form of contagion, has no cure and can lead to death.

The president of the Assembly, deputy Roberto Cidade (UB), is the author of PL nº 433/2022 that establishes guidelines for the institution of the State Program of prenatal and postpartum follow-up in the case of pregnant women with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) , in the Amazon.

“During pregnancy, women undergo major physical and physiological transformations in their bodies, transformations that, accompanied by correct procedures, are minimized, promoting the well-being of the pregnant woman and the fetus. In pregnant women with ASD, the transformations are accentuated due to sensory and psychological aspects”
