Upon taking office this Monday (19) at São Paulo City Hall, former minister and former deputy Aldo Rebelo spoke about Brazil’s role in world conflicts, in a kind of message to President Lula (PT), enveloped in a diplomatic crisis after comparing Israel’s military offensive in Gaza to the Holocaust.

“Brazil is dedicated to the path of conciliation and understanding. […] Brazil must always be the path to the solution, Brazil cannot be part of the problem”, he said, mentioning the conflicts USA versus China, Russia versus Ukraine and Arabs versus Jews. At that moment, the audience applauded him.

At the event, Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) swore Aldo into the Secretariat of International Relations and José Renato Nalini into the Executive Secretariat for Climate Change.

The event served Nunes’ purpose of diluting Jair Bolsonaro (PL) among his other supporters, as it brought together a series of relevant names in politics, in addition to Bolsonaro supporters. As the Panel showed, the mayor’s campaign adopted the strategy of reversing the criticism that “Nunes supports Bolsonaro” to “Bolsonaro is the one who supports Nunes”.

With speeches by MDB leaders, who were present in large numbers, the ceremony reinforced the mayor’s bond with the party and served as a response to criticism of Nunes’s Bolsonaroization, who declared that he will go to the demonstration in favor of Bolsonaro on the 25th.

Temer, for example, stated that the “concepts of right and left are outdated.” The former president called Nunes “mayor of today and mayor of tomorrow”, in reference to his re-election.
