Alckmin will extinguish position held by military – 06/10/2023 – Panel

Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) will extinguish the position of deputy assistant to the Vice-Presidency, a function that is occupied by the military. The plan is to further streamline the structure of the cabinet, already reduced by 40% since he arrived, in addition to reducing the number of military personnel.
Alckmin wants to keep just one representative from each Armed Force in the cabinet to take care of logistical issues, especially displacement.
In practice, however, the vice president still has an assistant. He brought from São Paulo PM captain Pedro Lamoso Júnior, who has been with him since he was governor. Today, Lamoso holds a position of special advisor.
Since taking office, Alckmin has been promoting a reduction in the staff of the Vice-Presidency. As he accumulates the function with the MDIC (Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services), some positions end up overlapping.
In addition, the deputy inherited a very militarized structure from his predecessor, the current senator Hamilton Mourão (Republicanos-RS). Eleven military personnel from the cabinet since January have already been exonerated.
The assistant of orders is a position destined to the immediate assistance of the representatives. It is occupied by military personnel, usually responsible for tasks such as answering phones, transmitting messages and organizing agendas.
In the management of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), for example, Colonel Mauro Cid received criticism for restricting access to the president. Today, he is the target of some investigations, including the adulteration of the former president’s vaccine card.
On the other hand, due to the proximity with the agents, the function can help to leverage the career. The current commander of the Army, Tomás Paiva, was former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso’s assistant (PSDB).
