Alckmin receives study on impact economy in Brazil – 11/07/2023 – Folha Social+

Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PT) receives this Wednesday (8) a report on the impact economy in Brazil.

The study entitled “Unlocking the Impact Economy” was prepared by the World Economic Forum and brings together recommendations for promoting socio-environmental entrepreneurship in the country.

The document will be debated at a round table at the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services with the participation of the Schwab Foundation, one of the sister entities of the World Economic Forum, and representatives of the Catalyst 2030 Brazil movement and the Aliança pelo Impacto.

Scheduled from 3pm to 5pm, the event will bring together around 50 leaders, including representatives from the government, companies and entities linked to the socio-environmental impact ecosystem in Brazil.

“This meeting will serve as a platform to discuss strategies and solutions for a more inclusive and sustainable future”, says François Bonnici, head of Social Innovation at the World Economic Forum and executive director of Schwab, who will participate in the discussions in Brasília.

For Bonicci, the government’s participation in the meeting demonstrates the public authorities’ interest in investing in the impact economy. “This sector has the potential to reshape our economic landscape, putting people and the planet first.”

The impact economy concerns the economic activity generated by entities in the third sector and sector 2.5 (called impact businesses), which work to find solutions to the country’s socio-environmental problems.

According to the report, the social economy accounts for around 7% of global GDP and up to 10% of jobs in countries such as Belgium, Italy, and France.

Catalyst 2030 Brazil, a movement that works to accelerate the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adapted the report to the Brazilian context and made recommendations to the government to promote the impact economy. Among the measures are the increase in credit for entrepreneurship and investment in education and research.

Encouraging the participation of more businesses in public and private purchases and collecting more data on social impact are also among the entity’s suggestions.

Gisela Solymos, CEO of Catalyst 2030 Brasil, states that the event takes place at an important moment in the world economy. “With several wars going on, the role of social entrepreneurs is crucial to promote dialogue between different actors,” she says.

In August, President Lula (PT) signed the creation of the new National Impact Economy Strategy (ENIMPACTO). The new public policy aims to stimulate entrepreneurship aimed at solutions to socio-environmental problems in the country.
