The Legislative Assembly of the State of Amapá (Alap) reaffirmed its support for the Acolher Project at Fazenda da Esperança, by renewing, last Wednesday morning (30), the funding term. An amount of 220 thousand reais was allocated, with monthly transfers scheduled over 12 months. The formal act of signing took place at the institution’s headquarters, located on the Macapá/Mazagão highway.

During her speech, the president of Alap, deputy Alliny Serrão (União), emphasized the relevance of the Casa de Leis in driving changes in the lives of those who move through the therapeutic community. “This term will strengthen the services offered to people who need it and face this daily struggle against chemical dependency”, highlighted the president. She congratulated the institution’s board of directors for their work in welcoming and receiving those in need of assistance, in addition to praising the commitment of the 24 deputies in contributing to this project.

According to the president of Fazenda da Esperança, Evandro Carneiro Coelho, renewing the agreement is essential for the management and maintenance of the house. “With this support from the Legislative Assembly, we must organize ourselves even more and increase the number of people welcomed”explained Evandro Coelho.

The farm, active since 1983 in the recovery process of people seeking freedom from addictions such as alcohol and drugs, has been operating in the municipality of Mazagão for five years, currently serving 28 people. Isaías, welcomed about a year ago, found the strength to free himself from drugs here and today works as a volunteer, helping to transform the lives of other people who struggle with chemical dependency. “Today I am an ambassador of hope and I am here because I want to help the brothers who are arriving with the same disease that I have”he emphasized.

The signing was attended by the reverend deacon Davi Serrão, the head of the Northern Special Court, judge Marconi Pimenta, the prosecutors of the Public Ministry of the State of Amapá, Laércio Mendes Nunes and José Cantuária Barreto, in addition to deputies Jesus Pontes (PDT ), Diogo Sênior (MDB), and deputies Aldilene Souza (PDT) and Zeneide Costa (Podemos).

The deacon, who is temporarily responsible for the therapeutic clinic, believes that these resources will be well used, considering Fazenda da Esperança as an example in the recovery of young drug addicts and in supporting their families. “The way to reduce the impacts of drugs is education and resocialization of our young people”, said Davi Serrão, adding that it is a unique happiness to find, after a year of treatment, a person being an example of a citizen.

For the institution’s general secretary, Renata Monteiro, the partnership with Alap in the recovery process of those served is essential. The farm offers highly complex services to accommodate people with disorders resulting from the use of toxic substances. “This term gives us peace of mind to welcome these people who do not have a family and insert them into society. This gives us hope in being able to give these people a new lifestyle,” commented.
