The Legislative Assembly of the State of Amapá (Alap), approved, unanimously, in its 29th Ordinary Session, which took place this Tuesday, 2nd, Ordinary Law Project nº 0047/2023 (PLO0047/23-AL), which institutes the campaign Red April, to be held annually and which aims to raise awareness about the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.
The project was proposed by Department Roberto Góes (União) and defines the fourth month of the year as the campaign period, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) have established, since 1998, the date of April 11 as World Parkinson’s Awareness Day.
More than 200,000 people in Brazil, according to the WHO, suffer from the disease, a progressive, chronic and degenerative neurological disorder, more common in people over 60 years old and that affects the motor system causing tremors, stiffness, slowness in movements and alterations of balance.
According to Deputy Roberto Goes, it is necessary to expand publicity so that there is greater awareness among the general population regarding public actions. “The aforementioned proposition aims to alert about the need for understanding, aiming at greater dissemination of symptoms, early diagnosis, adequate forms of treatment offered by the SUS and existing rehabilitation programs, reinforcing the importance of the disease, its treatment and its consequences. difficulties faced by patients and their families, as well as ratifying the rights guaranteed by the government to patients affected by the disease regarding the release of FGTS, PIS/PASEP, Sickness Allowance, Income Tax Exemption, IPVA, IPTU, medicines and available treatments.
