AL and PE declare emergency due to heavy rains; 25,800 people were affected

The heavy rains that hit part of the Northeast since last week led the states of Alagoas and Pernambuco to declare a state of emergency this weekend. In all, 25,800 people were affected in 12 cities in the first and 31 in the second, who are homeless or displaced.
The most tragic situation is in Pernambuco, where the collapse of two residential buildings on Friday (7) killed 14 people and left seven injured. The properties had been banned since 2010, but were reoccupied in 2012.
Throughout the state, there were floods and landslides, mainly in the municipalities of Belém de Maria, Palmares and Água Preta. In all, 2,400 people are homeless and 415 are homeless in 12 cities.
This Sunday (9), Governor Raquel Lyra (PSDB) announced R$ 1.34 million for immediate funding of possible benefits in municipalities in emergency and calamity situations, including those caused by heavy rains registered in the metropolitan region of Recife and in the areas of Mata and Agreste in recent days.
Alagoas
In Alagoas, 23,000 people were affected, 19,000 of whom were displaced. One person died in the city of Joaquim Gomes because of the rains. Damage was also recorded in Barra de Santo Antônio, Maragoggi, Passo de Camaragibe, among others.
According to Governor Paulo Dantas (MDB), the emergency decree will allow the delivery of 3,600 basic food baskets and mattresses to the affected residents. In addition to helping the residents affected, the decree allows for the installments of the Benefit of Continued Provision (BPC) to be anticipated, in addition to transfers of resources to the social assistance network.
