Al Ahly x Fluminense will be the Egyptian club’s 6th game against Brazilians in the World Cup – News of Brazil

Confirmed as Fluminense’s opponent in the Club World Cup semi-final, Al Ahly can now be considered an old acquaintance of Brazilian teams in the FIFA tournament.
Playing its 9th World Cup, the Egyptian team will be in the path of Brazilian representatives for the fourth consecutive edition. In total, it will be Al Ahly’s sixth duel against a team from Brazil.
In fact, Al Ahly was an opponent of the last two teams in the country that became world champions: Internacional, in 2006, and Corinthians, in 2012.
More recently, in 2023, the Egyptian team lost 4-2 to Flamengo in the third place match. The previous year, they were defeated by Palmeiras in the semi-final, 2-0.
Hero against Palmeiras continues at Al Ahly
Al Ahly’s only triumph came in 2021, against Palmeiras itself, in the third place match of that edition, when they drew goalless in normal time and won on penalties 3-2. The hero, at the time, was goalkeeper El- Shenawy, who saved Rony and Felipe Melo’s penalties.
Still a starter for Al Ahly, he shone again this Friday (15), when he saved a shot from French star Karim Benzema and helped the team beat Al-Ittihad 3-1, a result that qualified him to face Fluminense in the semi-final.
The duel will be next Monday (18), at 3 pm (Brasília time). The following day, Manchester City and Urawa Red Diamonds play the other semi-final, also at 3pm.
