The AGU (Attorney-General of the Union) is considering inserting debtors of fines imposed by Ibama (Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) in the negative register of debtors maintained by the PGFN (Attorney-General of the National Treasury).
The initiative would be a development of the cooperation agreement signed in June between AGU and Ibama for data sharing. The objective is to draw up more efficient strategies for recovering public credits.
From this, the Attorney General’s Office will be able to classify the offenders according to their ability to pay. Subsequently, when there is a constant flow of information, this data can be entered into the PGFN’s Open Debt system.
According to the AGU, this insertion will only occur after a new technical cooperation agreement to be signed with the PGFN, “which will enable the guarantee that the data will be published in a safe and effective way.”
“As they will be available for consultation by any citizen, it is necessary to have security in what is being made available, in addition to being sure that, when the debtor makes payments, communication is quick so that his name is removed from the list quickly”, explains the agency.
